Carmel T. Madigan is a professional artist, author and habitat researcher. She is proprietor and tutor at the Loophead Summer Hedge School, an environmental and creative, leisure learning Summer School which opens for July and August each year.
A graduate of the University of Limerick, and having grown up adjacent to the North East Atlantic coastline at Ross, Loophead, County Clare, Ireland, all her work has been strongly influenced by this wild, energetic, unkempt, textured and heavily detailed environment. As a result, her art desires to capture its wild essence, her research work plunges deep for under story detail, and her writing vividly expresses her passion for her subject matter.
Such correlations reflect directly back to the ocean's continuous backdrop and influences. The consummate research and photographic recording through space and time of the shoreline at Ross Beach, Loophed provides the subject matter for this book. It is well punctuated with social history references of her time and her family's generations living at Loophead.
